| ( Scroll down to see available puppies' photos! ) About the breed Border Collies originate from Scotland. Borders are often considered the finest sheepherding dog in the world! Life span is 10 to 13 years. A medium-sized dog - with females averaging 35 to 45 pounds, males averaging 45 to 55 pounds. Coats range from short to medium long and are normally Black & White, or Tri (Black & White with Tan points), or the rare Chocolate (Red & White), or the very rare Blue Merle Tri (White with Blue & Tan shadows & spots.) Borders are known for using their eyes when herding, controlling the sheep with an intense stare that shows they mean business. Borders are high-energy dogs, having been bred to cover many miles a day in their native Scotland. Borders require and thrive on activity, so be prepared to keep them occupied! They are best suited to homes with yards and families that will take the time to train and work them. Border Collies excel in Obedience, Agility, Flyball and, of course, Herding with livestock. They're great with children and make excellent watchdogs!
